BVB X WILDPLASTIC®

Borussia Dortmund is the first soccer club to use mailing bags made of WILDPLASTIC®

A strong statement

After a test phase with non-branded mailing bags from WILDPLASTIC®, BVB fans now receive their new jerseys and other sports & leisure wear in a mailing bag made from recycled, wild plastic in the look of the new BVB design. This makes BVB the first soccer club to use WILDPLASTIC®. “The sustainable transformation belongs at the heart of society and Borussia Dortmund is one of the biggest sports clubs in the world. The players and club are real role models for the fans. It is therefore clear that attitude and behavior have a huge effect and real responsibility is created.” - Christian Sigmund, CEO and co-founder of WILDPLASTIC®With our collaboration, we are sending a message for a better use of finite resources, fair, social interaction and a strong commitment to circularity in professional sport. Because sustainable transformation belongs at the heart of society and therefore also in soccer.

What is wild plastic?

Wild plastic is all the plastic that is found outside the recycling cycle in illegal landfill sites, in nature or on the streets. Together with partner organizations worldwide, we take wild plastic from the environment back into the recycling loop and turn it into new circular products.

Professional soccer has an incredible appeal and acts as a role model for millions of people. And it needs those pioneers who are courageous today and establish the solutions of tomorrow. Because as a society, we are facing an enormous challenge: the social and ecological transformation. This requires many of us, in fact all of us.

Christian Sigmund, CEO and Co-Founder of WILDPLASTIC®

From waste to mailing bags

Where does the wild plastic actually come from and how is it processed?

1. Recover

In countries without sufficient waste management systems, such as India or Indonesia, wild plastic is collected by hand by collectors. We work closely with our partner organizations for this step and visit them regularly.

2. Refurbish

The wild plastic is then sorted, washed and shredded by hand on site. This process is complex and takes time. Not all sorting plants can shred the material directly; it often has to be transported to larger recycling plants operated by partners.

3. Recycle

These steps are followed by recycling the material into granulate. If the infrastructure allows, we have the material granulated on site. If our partners are too small or do not have the necessary infrastructure, it is granulated by our partner in Portugal.

4. BVB VersandTASCHE

Finally, circular products such as the BVB shipping bag are produced from the granulate in Germany or Europe. Wild plastic thus becomes a valuable resource again.
